IF YOU'VE got a small room in your home that you want to make look bigger there are more tips and tricks than you might think.
This interior designer shared 13 of her best hacks and you wont have to break the bank to give them a whirl either.
Kristen McGowan explained that you wouldn't decorate a large room in the same way you'd decorate a small room, so there are always some things to keep in mind.
Stick to small furniture
Bigger isn't always better, especially if you've got a small room.
Kristen explained: "Big, heavy, clunky furniture will weight down your space.

"But buying smaller furniture that doesn't take up as much room will allow some space and make it look bigger."
She added that a lot of furniture shops sell small furniture specially for flats that work great in tiny rooms.
Reconsider your furniture placement
"Try and keep it off the walls," Kristen said.

Bringing furniture into the middle of the room will always make the room look much larger and more cohesive.
Of course, if your room is too small to do that the design pro suggested angling furniture in corners instead, "this works well with armchairs and reading nooks," she said.
Use multi-purpose furniture
Whether it's a console table that doubles as a desk or a couch that is also a pull out bed, having furniture that can be used in more than one way will mean you need less furniture overall.
Kristen added that furniture pieces that double as storage are also perfect for smaller spaces.
Try transparent furniture
Tables and chairs that are see-through will instantly make any room look loads bigger, the interiors pro explained.
It could be a glass table or even an acrylic unit.
"It will make you feel like there's so much more room even if you didn't remove any furniture," she said.
Pick furniture with longer legs
"If you're looking to gain more space in your room, pick furniture that's of the ground and has a tapered leg.
"That allows you to see the floor space and brings your furniture up a bit, which brings your eyes up and makes your space feel bigger!"
Add a big rug
According to the pro, if your rug is small it will make the room feel small too.
Adding a large rug that takes up more room will help anchor your furniture and make the entire space feel bigger.
Add more mirrors
"This is one of the easiest things you can do," Kristen said.
Hanging mirrors opposite windows will especially help create the illusion of more space and bounce the light around much more.
Hang curtains closer to the ceiling
Hanging your curtains just a few inches higher can make a massive difference.
This is because it will make your walls look loads higher than they actually are.
Hide clutter
There are loads of ways you can do this, but one easy way is to find furniture that hides it with baskets and extra drawers.
Kristen said: "it will open up the look of your space so there's less around and everything is hidden.
"That's why I like using baskets because I can keep everything out that I want, but they're hidden away."
Mount your TV
"It's such a simple thing, but it makes such a big difference," Kristen shared.
It will also mean that you need one less piece of furniture in your room, which is always a bonus in box rooms.
Paint the entire wall the same colour
Whilst most rooms will have one colour on the walls and a different colour on the skirting boards, this can break up the space and make it look smaller.
Paining everywhere but the ceiling in the same shade will instantly draw the eye up and make the space look larger.
Add an accent wall
Kristen said: "Having one little accent piece really makes a room look exciting, but it also makes it look larger.
"It drawers a lot of attention to one area of the space, which allows room to breathe in the other areas."
Use wallpaper with large patterns
If you're more of a wallpaper person, opting for designs with larger scale patterns can also create the illusion of more space.
Kristen explained: "It will trick your eye into thinking it's is a huge wall, if you do a small pattern it can look too cluttered and hectic."
